Vredestein presents new Centauro tyre range for motorcycles
Premium tyre brand Vredestein has announced the introduction of the Centauro range of sport touring radial tyres designed especially for motorcycles on European roads. Building on Vredestein’s 110-year heritage and technical experience, Centauro models and solutions offer peak technical excellence, including a high-tech tyre pressure monitoring system.
Vredestein’s Centauro is a new mobility solution for sport tourers, long-distance drivers and urban weekend riders, which provides excellent safety, mileage, behaviour on wet surfaces, stability and comfort. Its development and logo were inspired by the untamed spirit of the mythical centaur, as incarnated in the modern motorcycle rider.
The design of the Centauro models brings together the finest in European technology and Italian flair – the appearance was crafted in close cooperation with Frascoli Design in Milan. The range includes the Centauro ST, Centauro Road and Staccata scooter tyres, as well as a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The Centauro ST radial tyre for sport touring was designed for smooth biking in the range of conditions and temperatures common across the European continent. The multi-radius profile will ensure safety and stability in all load conditions as well as uniformity of wear throughout the life of the tyre. An optimised structure with a zero-degree steel belt provides high-quality dynamic behaviour in all conditions, including at maximum speed and maximum lean angle.
To ensure it would be highly versatile and suitable for different types of use, the Centauro ST was put through its paces in a wide range of climatic conditions on both European and Indian tracks. Testing took place in different environmental conditions (on public roads and proving grounds) in various motorbike segments (sports touring, naked, sport, crossover, classic, etc.) and took into consideration interactions with the most modern electronic vehicle control systems available (ABS pro, cornering ABS, traction control and riding mode).
The Centauro ST will be available in the first quarter of 2020 in the size 120/70 ZR 17 (58W) TL for front wheels and 180/55 ZR 17 (73W) TL for rear wheels, the latter in a standard one-ply version and a two-ply configuration for heavy motorcycles and/or luggage.
The Centauro Road is a sports radial tyre with a zero-degree steel belt. It is the best in class in terms of mileage and sheer driving pleasure, and the ideal companion for the BMW G310R, Bajaj-Dominar 400 or KTM 390/125, for instance. The Centauro Road will be available in the first quarter of 2020 in the size 110/70 ZR17 M/C 54W TL for front wheels and 150/60 ZR17 M/C 66W TL for rear wheels.
Designed for the scooter segment, the Staccata tyres were already available in Italy and will now also be launched into other parts of Europe. The tyre’s damping structure ensures safety and driving comfort in all weathers, while the Staccata has an excellent capacity for absorbing road surface irregularities. It is distributed by the Fintyre Group in a wide range of sizes.
Tyre pressure monitoring system
The Centauro tyre pressure monitoring system consists of two waterproof external sensors which provide continuous and highly accurate monitoring of the pressure and temperature in the tyres. They transmit this information via Bluetooth to a dedicated mobile app available on Android and iOS devices.
Available from the first quarter of 2020, this product will give bikers complete confidence in the state of their tyres. It will be distributed by SST Italia, a major player in the development of technical solutions for motorcycle companies and distributor of components for two-wheel vehicles. SST Italia is currently working with Vredestein’s sibling brand Apollo Tyres on the integration of the latest technological innovations into GPS systems.
